Help to Understand Special Education

  • Your child's Individual Education Plan is called an IEP.
  • An IEP will document all testing, observation, teacher reports and medical documentation that impacts your child's day to day education.
  • The IEP is developed and reviewed at The Committee on Special Education (CSE Committee)
  • A CSE can be called by you or your child's educational staff at anytime to review the IEP and your child's progress.
  • Goal are developed each area requiring Special Education intervention.
  • Prior to anything being implemented on behalf of your child you will receive a Prior Written Notice (PWN) to review and sign indicated your agreement.
  • If you are in disagreement with any part of process of your child's special education program or IEP their are several avenues to pursue to come to an agreement on what is in the best interest of your child.

Education Consultation

  • Setting up  two to three appointments with Dr. Williams can assist you on understanding the entire Special Education Process and equip you to fully participate in the Committee on Special Education.
  • Educational Consultation can also answer specific questions on behalf of your child's IEP.  This includes  review of standardized testing, outline of needs listed on the IEP and review of goals generated based upon your child's needs.
